Le but tardif de Jordan Ayew pour Crystal Palace contre West Ham était la 15e décision annulée de la saison, selon de nouvelles statistiques.
Le VAR a occupé le devant de la scène à la 86e minute au London Stadium après que l'attaque d'Ayew ait été déclarée hors-jeu. L'attaquant a ensuite déclaré que Martin Kelly était soupçonné d'être le coupable. C'était la quatrième décision annulée d'attribuer un but cette saison.
"Nous devons accepter la décision VAR", a déclaré Manuel Pellegrini, responsable de West Ham. "Je dis toujours que ce doit être pour de grosses erreurs ou ce que l'oeil humain ne peut pas voir, mais cela existe et ils ont décidé que c'était un objectif."
Le directeur de Crystal Palace, Roy Hodgson, a déclaré: "C’est la première fois que nous participons à VAR, et pour le moment, nous avons un record à 100% dans la mesure où il a fait l’objet de notre chemin.
"Je peux comprendre que West Ham doive être dur pour qu'il soit jugé en notre faveur après que le juge de touche l'ait déclaré hors-jeu."
Le PGMOL (Professional Game Match Officials Limited) a révélé que la décision d’Ayew était l’un des 475 incidents contrôlés par le VAR lors de 80 matches de Premier League, soit en moyenne moins de six contrôles par match.
Les officiels du match tiennent une réunion au Stockley Park, près de l'aéroport d'Heathrow, les lundi et mardi dans le cadre d'un briefing de routine des matchs, tous les quinze jours.
Il est entendu que les arbitres restent satisfaits de l’introduction du VAR en Premier League.
Le mois dernier, le chef des arbitres, Mike Riley, a admis que VAR avait commis quatre erreurs lors des quatre premières rondes de matches.
